Follow-up on the IBM Ponder This

3/11/2013

As I wrote a little while ago, I submitted a solution to IBM's Ponder this for February 2013. I was a bit of a pain in the butt since I first submitted an html file with no content. Oops. After sending the correct file, they reviewed it, and apparently my answer was suitable. You can see my name at the bottom of the webpage. Yay!

My name is there as well. And my solution (which is just your solution generalized) is specifically mentioned as “trivial”:

“My mistake was, of course, that b can be -y mod(10^k), which lends itself to several trivial solutions like
x = 5 * 10^(k-1) - 1; y = 10^k -1; and z = 5 * 10^(2 * k-1) - 10^k + 1.”

I saw that. If your solution is trivial, what does that make mine? A specific case of triviality? That's a good album name for a shitty band.

Congratulations on leaving the first comment on this blog. On an unrelated note, the button to apply as the administrator seems to be broken.
